Authors, computers have revolutionized the publishing world.
What does that mean to you?
That means you now have more choices: Traditional Publishing, Print on Demand Publishing, or Self-Publishing.
Traditional Publishing can be reluctant to invest in unknown writers because of the cost involved. An advantage of the traditional publisher is they will place your book in bookstores.
Print On Demand Publishers are often more willing to publish the works of an unknown writers. This is an advantage. As a new independent writer I chose to go with a POD publisher.
The disadvantage is POD publishers may not advertise your book, except for a listing on their website. Have YOU tried to find a horse or pony book that way?
Self-Publishing gives the writer complete control, but also sole responsibility.
As a writer how do YOU advertise your book? That was my dilemma also.
I went looking.
One large on-line retail store’s "advantage program" will advertise independent writer’s books for $29.95 a year plus 55% standard commission!
Personally I was shocked and angered! 55% standard commission? That seemed outrageous to me. Why should they get 55% of my book?
I built a webpage, which unfortunately was too insignificant for search engines to find.
I looked around for other alternatives. I tried advertising on an on-line horse site. The price was reasonable but the site sold horses, tack, farms, trucks and trailers.
Books just aren’t the priority of horse sites and their customers.
I couldn’t find a site dedicated to selling independent writer’s horse books. So I created one.
Books are our priority at Sharon's Corner Bookstore. I love books and the people who write and read them. I am dedicated to helping self-published, print on demand published and small-press published equine writers.
