Cowboys
Cowboys and the new west. Ranching in todays world.
The Orange Slipknot
by Jan Young
The grouchy old Ranch boss on the Nevada ranch where Ben’s dad works says Ben must pay for the horse that died. His hot-tempered dad clashes with the boss and 12-year-old Ben is caught right in the middle. Is Ben man enough to take responsibility for his actions? Ben is "Bad News," whether he is riding horses, driving his ATV or his dad's pickup, or shooting a gun. Will he ever quit getting in trouble?
The Orange Slipknot will entertain while informing readers about ranching in today's West. It includes a glossary of ranching terms and slang. Perfect for homeschoolers, the accompanying Curriculum Unit has strong cross-curricular connections: literature links, reading, math, science, art, social studies, and geography, with an emphasis on writing. Students will learn how to look beyond the words for meaning.
