First Pony
First pony is continued from blog.
“You’ll get a pony when you’re in your teens. If you still want one!”
Well, I did, and they did. An ad in the paper found a large pony gelding, and it was love at first sight. So Dad got busy and built a stable in the circa 1920's garage that was too small for our old Chrysler.
Stable finished, we drove to the pony’s stable, exchanged papers and money, and I put a bridle on him, no saddle yet. While Mom and Dad “ran shotgun” in the car in case he bolted and left me behind, I rode him bareback to our old home in Marblehead.
I believe we really bonded on that short delivery ride. Nameless pony behaved quite perfectly, and liked his new stable with the fresh straw on the floor and a can of oats awaiting him.
Promise kept.
