Horse Barn
There Was a Crooked Horse Barn
When I built a stable (to Sharon’s specifications, of course, including a ponyproof latch), Detailed plans, good lumber and hardware, the whole nine-yards nothing was too good for either
Toby or Sharon.
Using a carpenter’s square and level, every joint was true,
every vertical in perfect plumb. When I was done, I stepped back to see my handiwork, and my heart sank. The stable was crooked, horribly crooked.
No, my square and level weren’t broken, the garage just had an unnoticed but distinct lean from neglect from many decades of neglect and a sinking foundation! I saw only two solutions: adjust it to be in sync with the crooked garage, or just get seasick every time you looked at it. I opted for the first
solution, took a crowbar to the offending joints and reassembled it so that it was just as crooked garage.
That was so much easier on the eyes and stomach, and
Sharon and Toby thought it was just fine. Of course!
