Honey, A Pony's Story
by Honey
"Just eleven, orphaned and crippled from a car accident, Amy must live with her grandfather. Defeated by anger and depression, she withdraws into herself and her room, regressing emotionally and physically. Honey's natural instincts, the old man's wisdom, and the cowpony's memories work their magic to bring joy to wheelchair-bound Amy."

***As a mother of two young children, a horse lover and an avid reader this book touched me on many levels. I grew up reading the classics, Black Beauty, Misty etc. This story is reminiscent of Black Beauty's voice, surely Honey and Black Beauty have visited on more than one occasion and shared stories. As a mother of young children I look forward to the day that I can read this book to my girls. Honey can teach them a lot about understanding and 'humanity' as well as a bit on horsemanship. If you have children in your lives you have a place for Honey as well. She has a great story to share and a loving heart that we can all learn from. I can only hope that Honey has more stories to tell so that we will have more to read.

To read about Molly the Pony.
****I preread Molly the Pony, the story of the prosthetic wearing pony, before sharing it with my two young girls. This story is told with great sensitivity to Molly and for the readers. It is a very informative and well written book. It also offers a lot of interesting topics to discuss with your children. We have talked about being safe, following instructions, handicaps or different abilities, prosthetic limbs helping others who need help and never giving up. This book has quickly become one of our favorites. The photos in it are also very wonderful.

****Whether you want to start a discussion with you child about tolerance to others or are looking to inspire a child whom is facing challenges this is a must have book for young readers, and heartwarming for older readers.
