Horse Training
Not so long ago, people spoke of breaking horses, not horse training. Thankfully humans have learned better.
“For what the horse does under compulsion, as Simon also observes, is done without understanding; and there is no beauty in it either, any more then if one should whip and spur a dancer.”
Xenophon

Imprint Training of the Newborn Foal
By Robert M. Miller D.V.M.
Here is a how-to book for hands-on horse people, especially those who work with foals. The book explains procedures in step-by-step format with helpful black-and-white photos. The reader learns how to lay the foundation of much of what the foal will need to know to grow into a useful and manageable horse. Imprint training makes the foal – and later the horse – safer, quieter, and easier to handle. Large paperback, 152 Pages
Imprint training.
****My family and I followed the advice as written in this book. Our foals have been “in-your-pocket” horses and ponies, much less fearful and easy to train. Our horses seems happier because they have less to be afaraid of. I recommend this book.

I haven't read this book, but under Sharon's tutelage, I discovered how easy and natural it is to do. Plus, I have seen the results of her studies. This must be a great book!

Establishing Respect & Control for English and Western Riders
by Clinton Anderson with Ami Hendrickson
Real Horses. Real Riders. Real Problems. Real Solutions.
Clinton's new hardcover book presents a realistic, step-by-step training approach that you can apply to your own horse at home. Throughout the book, you will see each new exercise as it is presented to two riders (one western and one english) and their horses. Neither person is a professional rider or trainer and neither horse has done any of the exercises before. This book gives you first-hand insight from the riders themselves about their difficulties, breakthroughs, challenges and rewards and the suggestions Clinton gives them about how to be more effective with their training techniques. As a reader, you see each new exercise as it is presented to these participants, and through step-by-step photographs you gain greater understanding of the entire training process.
Horse training books by Clinton Anderson,
I would highly recommend books/videos or clinics by Clinton Anderson. I had the pleasure of observing a class taught by him at an Equifest held in Wichita, Kansas a few years ago. The man has extreme talent with horses. He has the concept of positive and negative reinforcement down to a science.
