Interviewing Heidi Author of Cowgirl Dreams

Sharon interviewing Heidi author of Cowgirl Dreams.

Sharon: When did horses first enter your life?

Heidi: My grandparents bought me my first horse when I was eight years old. He was a Welsh-Shetland cross and turned out not to be a good ride for an eight-year-old, so shortly after, I got a lovely strawberry roan, aptly named Strawberry. He was a great horse for a little girl, very gentle, like riding a rocking chair. We had many good years together.

Sharon: Is your book based on your horse?

Heidi: No, it’s based on my grandmother who was an avid horsewoman and who also rode steers in Montana rodeos during the 1920s.

Sharon: What is your favorite equine activity?

Heidi: I’ve actually not ridden a horse in many years, but I would love to just go for a nice gentle afternoon ride.

Sharon: How have horses influenced your life?

Heidi: Horses are wonderful animals. They can be your best friend, your comfort when you are hurting, and riding gives you such a sense of freedom of movement. Riding horseback was part of what formed me as a strong, independent woman.

Sharon: Will you be writing more books?

Heidi: Yes! My sequel, Follow the Dream, will be published sometime this summer or fall. I am currently working on the third book based on the same character, Nettie, and plan two more books in the series. One will be the next generation, and the fifth will be a more contemporary novel with the heroine Nettie’s great-granddaughter.
