Hi, my name is Rebecca Bohannon and I love natural horsemanship! Years ago my husband and I bought our first horse named Cody. We were so happy and our two children Brennen (then 6) and Collin (then 4) were ready to ride! Well. so I thought!
After only owning him for less than two months we took him to our friend’s house to ride on their five acre pasture. My husband warmed Cody up then Brennen was to ride first. Well before I could respond
Cody took of with Brennen and away they went. They were galloping and jumping logs till Brennen went flying off! Wow was I scared! Brennen ended up with some bruises and scrapes but was okay. I couldn’t help but think of what could have happened to him.
I started crying uncontrollably.
I then realized on our way home that not only were my children not safe, but I didn't know how to teach them to be safe. That drive home was long and upsetting. I discussed with my husband that I needed to get help and training from someone. He smiled and agreed.
That is when I found Cloud 9 Ranch! I was simply amazed! I started taking lessons and my children went to their summer camp. I was hooked from then on. Nancy and Claire have taught me so much and still do, but the horses taught me the most! I am now giving lessons and trailering horses for people in Naples. I am very excited to teach people and share with people that force doesn't have to come first.
That leadership and understanding a horse mentally, emotionally and physically is the key to get them to do it willingly! I have had such great success with my horse, and our additional horses (we now have 3) that I want to share with other people what I have learned so they can enjoy their horses as much as I do!
About the author:
I have had horses all my life. When I realized I had chosen a life that had horses and children in it, it was challenging to decide how to teach horsemanship to children who were toddling, had little control over their own emotions, and weighed nothing compared to the full size horses they shared a home with.
The natural horsemanship methods, using psychology and logic natural to equines, versus fear, mechanics, or intimidation proved to be the safest, most practical approach to take.
The books I have written, LIVING WITH CHILDREN and HORSES, and the children's companion bedtime stories and interactive exercises have been developed by our family and we want to share them with yours!
