Recycling at its Best

Four decades ago, when recycling had not been coined or practiced yet, Toby and I became enviromentally friendly. Stabling a pony in a garage in a residential neighborhood didn’t seem to rile anyone up, but my parents cautioned me not to cause trouble by leaving pony piles on public streets. Toby quickly developed the habit of leaving a pile in the gutter just a few houses down from ours, and after every ride I would dutifully pick it up. Then the piles were no longer to be seen. Mystery.

Dad’s parents stopped for a visit on their semi-annual trek to and from Northern Wisconsin. Mom was used to walking a good distance every day, and one day she complimented a lady out tending her most beautiful roses. “Oh, I am so lucky! A girl down the street has a pony, and every time they ride by, the pony leaves me the finest fertilizer possible for my roses.” Mystery solved. Sharon
